Day by Day
Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Arusha
Land at Kilimanjaro International Airport, where our friendly representative will greet you and transfer you to your comfortable lodge in Arusha. Take time to unwind, soak in the laid-back rhythm of this bustling town, and meet your safari guide for a briefing over dinner. A good night’s rest prepares you for the days ahead.
Day 2: Tarangire National Park
Depart Arusha after breakfast and drive to Tarangire National Park, famed for its majestic baobab trees and large elephant populations. Keep your camera ready as you explore the park’s winding tracks, spotting wildebeest, zebra, and giraffe drawn to the life-giving Tarangire River. In the late afternoon, settle into your lodge or tented camp and savor panoramic views as the sun dips below the horizon.
Day 3: Ngorongoro Highlands & Crater Rim
Leave Tarangire behind and venture to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Along the way, rolling countryside and local villages give you a glimpse into Tanzanian daily life. Ascend to the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater by late afternoon, pausing at scenic overlooks for your first views of this UNESCO World Heritage Site. Enjoy dinner at a lodge perched on the crater’s edge.
Day 4: Ngorongoro Crater Descent
Rise early to descend nearly 2,000 feet into the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera. The Crater floor plays host to a high concentration of wildlife, including lions, buffalos, and—if you’re fortunate—the critically endangered black rhino. Enjoy a picnic lunch by a hippo pool before ascending in the afternoon. Return to the rim to reflect on the day’s sightings as you watch the sunset beyond the crater walls.
Day 5: Heading to the Serengeti
Set off for the Serengeti, traveling through the vast Ngorongoro Highlands. Consider a brief stop at Olduvai Gorge, an archaeological site that offers insight into humanity’s ancient origins. By midday, reach the Serengeti plains—an iconic landscape teeming with wildlife. Enjoy an afternoon game drive as you move toward your camp in Central Serengeti, where you’ll spend the evening under brilliant stars.
Day 6: Full-Day Serengeti Safari
Experience the Serengeti at its most dynamic during a full day of game drives. Dawn brings prime wildlife activity: keep watch for prowling lions or a cheetah darting across the open grasslands. Return to camp for lunch and a siesta before venturing out again in the cooler hours. Toast the sunset as you recount highlights around the campfire before dinner and a restful night.
Day 7: Serengeti to Zanzibar
After one last early morning safari, transfer to a nearby airstrip for your flight to Zanzibar. Upon landing on this idyllic island, head to your coastal resort or boutique hotel along powdery beaches and shimmering waters. Relax with a refreshing swim, savor fresh seafood, and let the gentle ocean breeze usher in the next phase of your journey.
Day 8: Stone Town & Cultural Exploration
Travel into the heart of Zanzibar’s UNESCO-listed Stone Town, a melting pot of Arab, Persian, Indian, and African influences. Wander through narrow alleys lined with intricately carved doors, vibrant bazaars, and centuries-old mosques. Sample fragrant local dishes, learn about the island’s storied spice trade, and immerse yourself in the unique Swahili culture before returning to your beach retreat.
Day 9: Beach Day & Optional Activities
Revel in a full day of sun, sand, and sea. Bask on the beach, snorkel in crystal-clear waters, or take a boat excursion to hidden coves. For those seeking additional adventure, scuba diving on nearby reefs reveals a kaleidoscope of marine life, while a sunset dhow cruise offers a romantic way to watch the day fade. Cap off the evening with a feast of freshly caught seafood under the stars.
Day 10: Farewell to Zanzibar
Savor your final morning with a leisurely walk along the shore, breathing in the ocean air. Depending on your flight schedule, you may have time to pick up last-minute souvenirs or sample one more plate of spicy Swahili cuisine. Transfer to Zanzibar International Airport, carrying cherished memories of Tanzania’s wild beauty and the soothing embrace of its Indian Ocean paradise.
